Surround-scapes combines life-size projections, gentle sounds, sensory stimulation and thoughtfully curated visual experiences to transform familiar care spaces into engaging resident experiences.

Sensory-scapes offers fully facilitated immersive programs in your home. Our trained Surround-scapes facilitator will bring the equipment to site, set up the environment, and engage with residents as they journey through the customizable program.
Surround-scapes Programs
Our Surround-scapes sessions can be catered to the interests of your residents and include suggestions for pre- and post-session activity ideas. Our facilitator (tour guide) sets the pace and selects experiences based on the participants’ interaction.
Surround-scapes sessions are best suited for small groups or individuals, and come in many formats.

Where are the sessions conducted?
Surround-scapes is brought directly to your long-term care home, retirement home, or care setting. It is a non-permanent experience designed to transform a familiar room into an immersive recreation environment for residents.
What is the best area to host a Surround-scapes session?
A mid-sized, light-controlled room works best, ideally with a few blank or light-coloured walls. Because Surround-scapes uses projection, darker and simpler spaces help create a more immersive experience. Reach out to us, we’re more than happy to help you assess what space in your home would work best.
Is Surround-scapes suitable for people experiencing Dementia?
Yes. Surround-scapes was intentionally created with residents living with dementia in mind. Experiences are designed to feel gentle, familiar, and easy to participate in, while supporting moments of reminiscence, conversation, and connection.
What is the difference between Surround-scapes Immersive and VR (Virtual Reality) technology?
There are many differences between Surround-scapes and VR technology, most notably:
Headsets
VR – Requires a headset that covers your eyes and visually isolates you.
Surround-scapes – No headset required. Residents enter a room and experience immersion through large-scale projection and sound.
Isolation
VR – When participants wear a headset, they are completely isolated from the real-world.
Surround-scapes – Participants can still see their environment, allowing them to ground themselves with the ceiling, floor or surrounding surfaces.
Solo Experience
VR – Experience is individual.
Surround-scapes – Can be experienced in a group with other participants, family or support.
Content
VR – Typically computer-generated content.
Surround-scapes – Based on videography and real-life places, activities and events. Some Surround-scapes content is computer-generated however, we ensure all CGI is based in reality and suited for people living with Dementia.
Do staff participate?
Yes. A staff member must be present and available during the session to support residents as needed. Our team facilitates the Surround-scapes experience, while staff help provide familiarity, comfort, and resident-specific support.
How long is a session?
A typical Surround-scapes session is approximately 45 minutes, with a few additional minutes before and after for residents to enter, settle in, and comfortably leave the space.
